Harbin Kicks Off Asian Winter Games with Inspiring Torch Relay

The ninth edition of the Asian Winter Games has officially begun with an inspiring torch relay in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. This vibrant event showcases the city’s natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and urban charm.

A diverse group of 120 torchbearers, ranging from 16 to 83 years old, carried the flame through Harbin’s iconic landmarks. The relay emphasized simplicity, safety, and spectacle, reflecting the spirit of the Games.

Li Na, head of the Torch Relay Command Center's Torchbearer and Volunteer Management Team, highlighted the inclusive selection process. \"We prioritized inclusiveness, representation, and fairness, involving participants from the Olympic Council of Asia, the Chinese Olympic Committee, the Asian Winter Games Organizing Committee, various Heilongjiang cities, and our sponsor enterprises,\" Li stated.

The relay route spanned approximately 11 kilometers and featured a launch ceremony, community performances, and a closing ceremony, engaging local residents and visitors alike.

Earlier today, ice hockey marked the first competition of the Games, while athletes from the host nation China are set to compete in mixed doubles curling on Tuesday, making their debut in this event.
