The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge continues to demonstrate its vital role in regional connectivity, with the Zhuhai port handling a record 156,000 inbound and outbound passenger trips on Friday. This marks the highest daily count since the bridge's opening in 2018.
Spanning 55 kilometers, the bridge connects the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), Macao SAR, and the city of Zhuhai in Guangdong Province. It stands as the world’s longest bridge-and-tunnel sea crossing, underscoring its significance in enhancing travel and commerce in the region.
Border inspection authorities in Zhuhai reported that from Tuesday to Friday, the first four days of the Spring Festival holiday, the bridge facilitated over 454,000 passenger trips and more than 69,000 vehicle trips. These numbers represent increases of 22 percent and 32 percent year-on-year, respectively.
In 2024, daily passenger flows at the Zhuhai port exceeded 100,000 on 50 days, a tenfold increase from the previous year. Additionally, more than 3 million vehicle trips carrying number plates from Hong Kong or Macao were recorded at the port this year, accounting for 55 percent of its total traffic.
The surge in traffic highlights the bridge’s growing importance as a key infrastructure asset, supporting both local and international travel demands during peak periods like the Spring Festival.
