Hainan Expands Space Launch Capabilities with New Commercial Pads

Hainan's ambitious space sector continues to soar as the second phase of construction kicks off at the commercial spacecraft launch site in Wenchang City. Spanning over 133 hectares along the coastal suburban area, the expansion introduces two state-of-the-art launch pads tailored for liquid propellant rockets.

Managed by Hainan International Commercial Aerospace, the new launch pads come equipped with advanced propellant fueling and gas supply systems, ensuring efficient and reliable missions. Beyond the physical infrastructure, phase two encompasses the development of a cutting-edge commercial aerospace command and control center, a rocket assembly and testing facility, and a sophisticated tracking, telemetry, and command station.

This expansion is set to significantly enhance the site's comprehensive launch capabilities, addressing the increasing demand for commercial space launches within China. Moreover, it marks a pivotal step in Hainan's strategy to cultivate an innovative industrial cluster dedicated to the commercial space sector.

Reflecting on the progress, phase one of the launch site was completed in an impressive 878 days, with its inaugural launch mission successfully taking off on November 30, 2024.

As Hainan positions itself at the forefront of commercial aerospace innovation, these developments promise to unlock new opportunities and drive forward China's presence in the global space industry.
