Wang Yi Advocates China-US Cooperation in New Era During Talks with Rubio

In a significant development, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of fostering a positive relationship between China and the United States during a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday.

Wang highlighted that China-U.S. relations have reached a crucial turning point. He referenced an important phone call between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump last Friday, where both leaders achieved a series of mutual understandings.

\"President Xi comprehensively elaborated on China's policy toward the United States, and President Trump responded positively, expressing his desire to maintain good relations and emphasizing that the two countries working together can address many global challenges,\" Wang stated.

The Foreign Minister underscored the necessity for both nations to implement their leaders' common understandings, maintain open communication, manage differences, and expand cooperation based on principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation. This approach aims to promote the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations in the new era.

Wang also addressed China's commitment to its development goals, emphasizing, \"Our goal is to deliver a better life for the people and make more contributions to the world. We have no intention of surpassing or replacing anyone, but we must defend our legitimate right to development.\"

On the sensitive Taiwan issue, Wang reiterated China's longstanding stance, urging the United States to handle the matter prudently. \"Taiwan has been part of China\u2019s territory since ancient times. We will never allow Taiwan to be split from China,\" he asserted. He reminded the U.S. of its commitments under the one-China policy established in the three China-U.S. joint communiques, stressing that these commitments should be honored.

U.S. Secretary Rubio echoed the significance of the relationship, describing it as the most important bilateral relationship of the 21st century that will shape the future of the world. He emphasized the United States' desire for candid communication with China to resolve differences, manage the relationship maturely, and collaborate on global challenges to maintain peace and stability.

Wang concluded by calling on major nations to act responsibly on the global stage, uphold international responsibilities, maintain world peace, and assist countries in achieving common development. \"I hope you will act accordingly and play a constructive role for the future of the people of China and the United States, as well as for the peace and stability of the world,\" he added.
