Taiwan Couple Preserves Mazu’s Legacy on Meizhou Island

Wang Shu-hua and her husband, Jao Jui-ho, are dedicated volunteers at the temple of Mazu on Meizhou Island in the Chinese mainland. Mazu, China's beloved sea goddess, is a cultural symbol cherished by people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Originally from Taiwan, Wang and Jao moved to Meizhou three years ago to immerse themselves in Mazu's traditions and contribute to preserving her legacy.

Since settling on Meizhou Island, the couple has built a comfortable life while actively engaging in community activities that promote mutual understanding and respect between Taiwan and the Chinese mainland. Their efforts have not only strengthened cultural ties but also fostered a sense of unity among residents.

Their inspiring journey is featured in the upcoming CGTN documentary, The Journey of the Goddess, airing on February 3. The documentary highlights Wang and Jao's commitment to cultural preservation and their role in bridging communities across the Taiwan Strait.
