China Approves Philippine Supply Mission to Ren’ai Jiao

China has given the green light for a Philippine resupply mission to the nation’s illegally grounded warship at Ren'ai Jiao in the South China Sea. This development marks a significant moment in the ongoing maritime dynamics of the region.

A Philippine civilian vessel successfully delivered essential supplies to the grounded warship, according to Liu Dejun, spokesperson for the China Coast Guard (CCG). Liu emphasized that the CCG conducted thorough verification and maintained comprehensive oversight throughout the mission.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration, Liu urged the Philippine side to honor its commitments and work alongside China to ensure the maritime situation remains stable and under control.

\"The CCG will continue rights protection and law enforcement activities in China's Nansha Qundao, including Ren'ai Jiao, and its adjacent waters,\" Liu stated.

The backdrop to this mission dates back to May 1999, when the Philippines illegally grounded the tank landing ship BRP Sierra Madre (LT-57) at Ren'ai Jiao. Despite repeated assurances from the Philippines to tow away the vessel, over 25 years have passed, and the ship remains in place.
