Capturing Mazu’s Spirit: Taiwan Photographer’s Journey to Meizhou

Wang Wen-hsien is a passionate photographer hailing from Beigang Town on the island of Taiwan. Over the past three years, he has been journeying regularly across the Taiwan Strait to Meizhou Island in Fujian Province, southeastern China. Wang's mission is to document and capture a series of events dedicated to Mazu, the revered goddess of the sea.

Mazu holds a significant place in the hearts of people across southern China and beyond, symbolizing protection and guidance for those who venture into the sea. Through his lens, Wang seeks to highlight the cultural significance and enduring legacy of Mazu worship on Meizhou Island.

His ongoing project not only showcases the vibrant celebrations and rituals associated with Mazu but also bridges the cultural connections between Taiwan and mainland China, fostering a deeper understanding of shared traditions and beliefs.
