As the Spring Festival approaches, families in Zhujiagou Village, Liaoning Province, are preparing to celebrate the Chinese New Year in newly built homes. Last August, severe flooding in Suizhong County devastated the region, affecting 185,000 residents across 110 villages. Zhujiagou was among the hardest-hit areas, with extensive damage to infrastructure and homes.
In response to the disaster, 186 villagers from 41 households were relocated to a safer area on higher ground. By October 24, 2024, the community had moved into newly constructed residences, ensuring they had shelter before the harsh winter months.
President Xi Jinping, also serving as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made a heartfelt visit to Zhujiagou Village on Wednesday. Braving the cold temperatures, Xi inspected the progress of the restoration and reconstruction efforts, engaging with the residents about the quality of their new homes and daily living conditions.
\"Huludao suffered severe flooding last year. I have been concerned about you and came to see you before the Spring Festival,\" Xi told the villagers. He expressed relief at the visible progress, stating, \"What I've seen today makes me feel relieved.\"
Highlighting the government's commitment, Xi emphasized, \"We have always put the people first. The people can always count on the Party and the government in their most difficult times, and we will help them overcome difficulties and rebuild their homes.\"
This visit marks Xi's ongoing dedication to post-disaster reconstruction, a priority in his efforts to ensure the well-being of Chinese citizens. Over the past years, Xi has visited various regions affected by natural disasters, reinforcing the message that the CPC remains steadfast in its mission to improve the lives of the people.
In his latest New Year message, Xi reiterated that \"of all the jobs in front of us, the most important is to ensure a happy life for our people,\" underscoring the tangible actions taken to support disaster-stricken communities.
