Guo Ailun Scores 40 as Beikong Royal Fighters Edge Guangzhou Loong Lions

In a thrilling matchup on Wednesday, the Beikong Royal Fighters triumphed over the Guangzhou Loong Lions with a final score of 116-113. This victory marks the sixth consecutive loss for the home team in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).

The star of the night was veteran guard Guo Ailun, who delivered a spectacular performance by scoring 40 points. Guo's achievement is particularly notable as it marks his first 40-point game since April 7, 2022, ending a remarkable streak of 1,017 days.

The game started off closely, with Guangzhou taking an early lead of 11-6 before Beikong responded with an 8-2 run. Grant Riller secured the visitors' lead with a decisive jumper, making it 28-27. Beikong then dominated the early part of the second quarter, establishing a double-digit advantage at 43-33.

Not to be outdone, Guo Ailun rallied the Loong Lions by pouring in eight straight points, supported by Liu Yancheng's back-to-back three-pointers. The teams were tied at 49-49, but Beikong's Jared Sullinger and Zhu Songwei took control again, leading to a 68-59 advantage by halftime.

In the third quarter, Guo continued his impressive form, adding 14 more points and two three-pointers to narrow the gap to just three points, 94-91, heading into the final quarter.

The tension remained high as Guangzhou mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter, with Guo orchestrating plays and assisting teammates Li Xiangbo and Tahjere McCall. The Loong Lions briefly led 111-104 with under five minutes remaining. However, Beikong responded with a powerful 10-0 run, reclaiming the lead at 114-111.

Despite Guo's efforts to keep the game alive with two crucial free throws, Beikong held firm. In the final moments, McCall attempted a three-pointer for Guangzhou, but it missed, sealing Beikong's hard-fought victory.

This win extends Beikong Royal Fighters' momentum in the league, while Guangzhou Loong Lions continue to strive for a turnaround in their season.
