China Unveils Top 10 Sci-Tech Achievements of 2024

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) have unveiled China's top 10 scientific and technological achievements for 2024. Announced during a press conference in Nanjing, the list highlights groundbreaking advancements that underscore China's growing prowess in various fields.

Leading the list is the Chang'e-6 lunar mission, which successfully collected lunar samples from the far side of the moon, marking a significant milestone in space exploration. The announcement also includes the world's first brain-inspired complementary visual chip, a testament to China's strides in artificial intelligence and computing technologies.

Other notable achievements feature the domestically-built ocean drilling vessel – Mengxiang (\"Dream\") – the petabyte-level ultra-high-capacity optical disc storage device, and the Einstein Probe astronomical satellite, also known as the Tianguan satellite. These innovations reflect China's commitment to pushing the boundaries of exploration and technological capability.

The list further recognizes advancements in medical technology, such as the world's first universal CAR-T therapy utilizing donor-derived CAR-T cells to treat rheumatic and autoimmune diseases, as well as breakthroughs in refrigeration and microscopy. Additionally, the second Qinghai-Xizang Plateau scientific research expedition achieved a series of triumphs, including the drilling of the world's longest mountain glacier core.

This 31st annual list has attracted significant attention both domestically and internationally, fostering a deeper public understanding and appreciation of China's scientific and technological contributions.
