China Sets Ambitious Goals for Rural Revitalization by 2027

China is on a determined path to transform its rural landscape, aiming for substantial progress in all-around rural revitalization by 2027. This ambitious plan, unveiled by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council, focuses on modernizing agriculture and rural areas to a new stage, ensuring sustainable growth and development.

At the heart of this initiative is the strengthening of national food security. The plan outlines a period from 2024 to 2027 to bolster the foundation of food security, aiming to keep the Chinese population's food supply firmly within the nation's control. Agricultural production capacity is set to increase steadily, with grain planting areas stabilized at approximately 117 million hectares and cereal areas maintained around 145 million hectares.

Moreover, China targets a robust increase in grain production capacity, aspiring to reach about 700 billion tonnes by 2027. This surge in production is crucial for meeting the growing demands of the population and ensuring resilience against potential supply disruptions.

The strategy also emphasizes regional leadership in this transformation. Developed eastern regions and suburban villages in the central and western parts of China are expected to take the lead in achieving agricultural and rural modernization. Their progress will set benchmarks for other areas to follow, fostering a nationwide upliftment.

Looking ahead, by 2035, China envisions decisive advancements in the comprehensive revitalization of rural areas. Agricultural modernization will be essentially realized, and rural communities will be equipped with the fundamental conditions for modern living, marking a new era of prosperity and sustainability.
