In a significant move towards peace, China has successfully mediated a ceasefire agreement between the Myanmar government and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), effective from January 18. This breakthrough was announced by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning during a press conference on Monday.
The seventh round of peace talks, held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, saw both parties express their gratitude for China's pivotal role in facilitating the agreement. Mao highlighted that easing tensions in northern Myanmar aligns with the collective interests of Myanmar and the surrounding region, enhancing the security and stability of the China-Myanmar border area.
\"China and Myanmar are friendly neighbors, and China firmly opposes any conflict or unrest in Myanmar,\" Mao stated. She emphasized the importance of maintaining the momentum of the ceasefire, implementing the agreed-upon consensus, and resolving disputes through ongoing dialogue and consultations.
China has committed to supporting Myanmar's efforts to uphold its independence, sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity. Additionally, China will back Myanmar's initiatives to secure domestic peace, stability, and economic development, as well as its pursuit of political reconciliation within the constitutional framework.
Looking ahead, Mao assured that China will continue to actively promote peace talks and provide ongoing support and assistance to the peace process in northern Myanmar, reinforcing its dedication to fostering long-term stability in the region.
