Legendary Dragon Lantern Returns to Nanjing After 13 Years

After a 13-year hiatus, the majestic dragon lantern at Zhengjue Temple Village in Yangjiang Town of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, has come to life once again.

The dragon, boasting 68 sections and stretching an impressive 122 meters, is a true masterpiece of craftsmanship. It seamlessly blends traditional bamboo weaving and carpentry techniques, resulting in an intricate design that captivates onlookers. The dragon's head features detailed adornments and is equipped with mechanical elements that allow its eyes and mouth to open and close, adding a dynamic element to the performance.

The dragon dance, which involves between 100 and 200 performers, creates a breathtaking visual spectacle as the colossal dragon weaves through the village streets. This intricate dance not only showcases the skill and coordination of the performers but also honors the rich cultural heritage of the community.

Large-scale dragon dances are rare, typically occurring only once a decade. This remarkable event has captivated the local community, celebrating the enduring legacy of this beloved cultural tradition and reinforcing the bonds that unite the residents of Zhengjue Temple Village.
