The Chinese Foreign Ministry has called on the United States to respect facts, adhere to multilateral rules, and reinstate the rules-based multilateral trading system.
During a regular press briefing on Friday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun responded to inquiries about the U.S. release of a Section 301 investigation report focusing on China's maritime, logistics, and shipbuilding industries.
Guo emphasized that the Biden administration's initiation of this investigation constitutes a serious violation of World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and is an act of protectionism.
\"China is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposes such an act,\" Guo stated, adding that China has voiced its stance on this issue multiple times.
Addressing the competitiveness of the U.S. shipbuilding industry, Guo pointed out that overprotection has caused the industry to lose its competitive edge years ago. In contrast, the growth of China's related industries is attributed to technological innovation, active market participation, a comprehensive industrial manufacturing system, and a vast domestic market.
Guo criticized the Biden administration for blaming China for its own industrial challenges, labeling such claims as unfounded and contrary to economic common sense.
The spokesperson concluded by stating that China will closely monitor the investigation's progress and take all necessary measures to protect its rights and interests.
