China's Ministry of Commerce has announced it will investigate the export of low-priced semiconductor chips from the United States. This move aligns with Chinese laws, regulations, and World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.
The probe comes as China's mature-process chip industry faces what it sees as unfair competition from U.S. imports. Domestic companies have requested anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures to counter the influx of lower-priced chips.
A spokesperson for the Ministry stated that the Biden administration has been providing significant subsidies to its chip industry, which they argue has allowed U.S. companies to gain an unfair competitive edge. These subsidized companies are exporting mature-process chip products to China at reduced prices, impacting the local market.
\"Such actions have undermined the legitimate rights and interests of China's domestic industries,\" the spokesperson added. They emphasized that Chinese industries have the right to file for trade remedy investigations to ensure fair competition.
