China Endorses EU Integration and Strategic Autonomy on 50th Anniversary

In a significant show of support, Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed China’s commitment to European integration and the European Union's (EU) strategic autonomy during a phone conversation with European Council President Antonio Costa.

Xi emphasized that China views Europe as a crucial pillar in a multipolar world. He highlighted that the enduring relationship between China and the EU is built on mutual respect, equality, and open dialogue, which have been the foundation for their successful cooperation over the years.

Marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and the EU, Xi stated that there is no clash of fundamental interests or geopolitical conflicts between the two parties. Instead, he described China and the EU as partners that can drive each other’s success through collaborative efforts.

The Chinese leader reaffirmed China’s dedication to high-quality development and further opening up its economy, promising that these initiatives will create new opportunities for enhanced China-EU cooperation.

European Council President Antonio Costa echoed Xi's sentiments, expressing the EU’s willingness to work together to address economic and trade differences through continuous dialogue and consultation. Costa also emphasized the importance of deepening strategic mutual trust and fostering cultural and people-to-people exchanges to pave the way for a flourishing future in China-EU relations.
