Sri Lankan President Dissanayake Embarks on Historic China Visit

Sri Lanka's President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is set to embark on a historic state visit to China from January 14 to 17. This marks his first journey to China since assuming office, underscoring a significant step in fortifying China-Sri Lanka relations.

During his visit, President Dissanayake will engage in talks with President Xi Jinping, further deepening the political mutual trust between the two nations. Additionally, Premier Li Qiang and Chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee Zhao Leji are scheduled to meet with him, highlighting the importance of this diplomatic mission.

China and Sri Lanka have enjoyed a strong and steady relationship since establishing diplomatic ties in 1957. Both countries have consistently navigated the evolving international landscape, setting a commendable example of friendly coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation between nations of different sizes.

The visit aims to leverage the long-standing friendship to enhance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and practical partnerships across various sectors. As Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, emphasized, this visit seeks to drive new progress in bilateral strategic cooperation, ensuring lasting benefits for both peoples through sincere mutual assistance and enduring friendship.
