In celebration of the fifth National Police Day, China's Ministry of Public Security announced a significant 25.7-percent decline in criminal cases for 2024 compared to the previous year. This reduction underscores the nation's ongoing commitment to maintaining public safety and security.
Despite the overall decrease in criminal activities, cases related to public security remained largely unchanged, ensuring a stable environment for citizens and residents alike. Notably, road traffic safety has seen remarkable improvements, with no major traffic accidents reported for 63 consecutive months, highlighting the effectiveness of traffic management and safety measures implemented across the country.
The Ministry also highlighted successes in combating specific types of crimes. Authorities solved over 17,000 cases related to food and drug safety, ensuring the protection of consumers and maintaining high standards in public health. In the economic sphere, more than 78,000 economic crimes were resolved, leading to the recovery of approximately 30.67 billion yuan (about 4.27 billion U.S. dollars) in financial losses.
Drug-related crimes have also been a focal point, with Chinese police cracking 38,000 cases and seizing 24.4 tonnes of various illicit substances. These efforts demonstrate the effectiveness of law enforcement initiatives aimed at reducing drug abuse and trafficking.
Overall, the Ministry of Public Security affirmed that the public safety situation in China remains stable, reflecting the success of ongoing strategies to enhance security and reduce criminal activities across the nation.
