Xi Jinping Leads CPC Meeting on Critical Earthquake Relief in Xizang

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a leadership meeting on Thursday to oversee relief efforts following a recent earthquake in Dingri County, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region.

The earthquake, measuring a magnitude of 6.8, struck Dingri County in the city of Xigaze on Tuesday morning, resulting in 126 fatalities and 188 injuries. As rescue operations continue, a total of 407 individuals have been successfully rescued.

During the meeting, Xi Jinping addressed the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, emphasizing that disaster relief remains in a critical stage and that there must be no reduction in the intensity of relief work. The leadership stressed the importance of securing a decisive victory in the challenging battle against the disaster.

The CPC leadership reviewed the response efforts to date, acknowledging that localities and departments have acted swiftly and effectively to save lives and reduce casualties. There was a strong emphasis on treating the injured, fulfilling the basic living needs of those affected by the earthquake, and ensuring that residents remain warm during the winter months.

The meeting called for an accelerated pace in repairing infrastructure, clearing debris, and restoring normal work and living conditions in the affected areas as quickly as possible. Additionally, it highlighted the need for releasing authoritative information, enhancing the earthquake resistance of buildings and infrastructure in key areas, and improving overall disaster response capabilities.

Officials at all levels were urged to remain steadfast on the front lines and to spare no effort in fulfilling their duties to support the ongoing relief efforts.
