Dong Community Highlights Grand Song in Vibrant Cultural Contest

The Dong ethnic group, renowned for their rich cultural heritage, recently shone a spotlight on the Grand Song during a spirited contest held in Guizhou and Guangxi. Known as the Kam Grand Choir, Grand Song is a traditional form of folk music celebrated for its intricate polyphonic melodies, rigorous structures, and rhyming lyrics.

Performed without any musical instruments or conductors, Grand Song captivates audiences with its harmonious vocal arrangements and profound lyrical depth. This ancient art form not only preserves the Dong people's unique cultural identity but also fosters community spirit and artistic expression.

Recognized for its cultural significance, Grand Song has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage of China and an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
