Dingri Earthquake: Managing Aftershocks and Geological Risks

Search and rescue operations are ongoing in Dingri County, located in the southwest of the Chinese mainland's Xizang Autonomous Region, following a magnitude 6.8 earthquake. While efforts to aid those affected continue, there are rising concerns about potential aftershocks and other geological hazards, such as avalanches.

Jiang Haikun, a researcher at the China Earthquake Networks Center, commented on the situation, saying, \"The aftershock activity from this earthquake is relatively weak. There may still be aftershocks of around magnitude 5, but the likelihood of a larger earthquake is low.\" Despite the reassurance, residents remain vigilant as they navigate the aftermath of the seismic event.
