Xizang Earthquake: Search and Rescue Enters Final Phase as Reconstruction Begins

The search and rescue efforts in Dingri County, located in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, have officially entered the final stage following a magnitude-6.8 earthquake that struck on Tuesday morning.

Hong Li, head of the regional emergency management department, announced during a press conference on Wednesday that the focus has now shifted to resettling residents affected by the quake and initiating post-disaster reconstruction.

\"We will spare no effort in searching for those still unaccounted for and ensuring the injured receive the necessary treatment,\" Hong Li emphasized.

Over 10,000 rescuers were swiftly deployed to assist in the search and rescue operations, successfully finding and rescuing 407 individuals, according to Wang Fanghong, mayor of Xigaze, the administrative center of Dingri.

In addition to rescue efforts, 187 resettlement sites have been established to accommodate 46,500 relocated residents. The safety of tourists was also prioritized, with 484 visitors, including 13 foreigners, safely returning to Xigaze.

To support the quake-stricken areas, central authorities have allocated a second batch of relief supplies, including 20,000 items such as quilts and folding beds, 2,000 bunkhouses, and 200,000 winter essentials.

As the region moves towards recovery, the commitment to rebuilding and supporting affected communities remains unwavering.
