The Communist Party of China (CPC) has reinforced its unwavering commitment to combating corruption, emphasizing the need for confidence and perseverance in this ongoing struggle. This declaration was made during the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) held in Beijing from January 6 to 8.
Xi Jinping, the general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, Chinese president, and chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered a pivotal speech at the session. His address underscored the critical state of the anti-corruption campaign, which remains both grave and complex.
The plenary session reviewed the discipline inspection and supervision efforts of 2024 and outlined the strategic tasks for 2025. Li Xi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CCDI, presented a comprehensive work report on behalf of the Standing Committee of the CCDI.
Under Xi's guidance, the attendees committed to advancing the fight against corruption with renewed determination. The focus will be on eliminating the environments that foster corrupt practices, targeting hedonism, extravagance, pointless formalities, and bureaucratism.
2024 saw significant advancements in disciplinary and supervisory work, particularly in key sectors such as finance, energy, and sports. The campaign successfully exposed new types of corruption and hidden graft, ensuring that both bribe-givers and recipients face consequences. A total of 68 departments underwent regular disciplinary inspections throughout the year.
The communique called for strengthened confidence in overcoming the challenges of the anti-corruption battle while acknowledging the persistent complexity of the situation. Moving forward, the focus will be on supporting Chinese modernization through enhanced political oversight, comprehensive reforms, and solidifying achievements in Party discipline education.
Efforts will also be directed towards improving mechanisms for investigating misconduct and corruption, particularly addressing more covert forms of wrongdoing. This includes stringent measures when an official's family members become involved in business operations that violate regulations.
By leveraging disciplinary inspections for more accurate problem identification and effective solutions, the CPC aims to ensure that all citizens benefit more fairly from development. The session concluded with a reaffirmation of advancing high-quality disciplinary inspection and supervision work, supporting China's journey towards becoming a strong nation and achieving national rejuvenation through modernization.
