A spokesperson for the Chinese mainland condemned Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities on Wednesday for their unfounded speculation and inflammatory remarks regarding a recent undersea cable incident.
Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, responded to the DPP's assertion that the incident was \"not a mere accident\" and suggested it indicated an escalation in the mainland's \"gray zone\" operations aimed at pressuring Taiwan.
Media reports indicate that an undersea communication cable near the port of Keelung was allegedly damaged by an anchor dragged by a cargo ship last week.
Chen highlighted that damage to undersea cables is a common occurrence in maritime activities, with over 100 such incidents reported globally each year.
He criticized the DPP for making remarks without establishing the facts or accountability, arguing that their statements reflect an unscrupulous approach to manipulating anti-mainland sentiment.
