China and Republic of Congo Strengthen Ties for Enhanced Africa Partnership

In a significant move to bolster China-Africa relations, China and the Republic of Congo reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation and promoting shared development. The consensus was reached in Brazzaville during talks between Denis Sassou Nguesso, president of the Republic of Congo, and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

President Sassou welcomed Minister Wang’s visit and extended New Year greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping. He highlighted the historic importance of President Xi's 2013 visit to Congo, marking Xi's first overseas trip after taking office. Sassou emphasized Africa's rising prominence on the global stage and expressed hope that China's dedication to the continent would inspire the international community to increase its support for Africa.

Sassou lauded President Xi’s 10 partnership action plans unveiled during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He noted that these comprehensive plans align well with Africa's development needs, addressing critical areas such as infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and industrialization—key sectors for the growth of Congo and other African nations. As Congo serves as a co-chair of FOCAC, Sassou pledged to implement these initiatives diligently to drive further success in China-Africa cooperation.

Minister Wang Yi conveyed President Xi’s greetings and reiterated China’s unwavering commitment to Africa. He described Congo as a vital partner, commending its vibrant progress under President Sassou’s leadership. Wang emphasized the strategic importance of China’s tradition of initiating the foreign minister’s year with a visit to Africa, underscoring China’s steadfast solidarity with African nations.

Highlighting the strong bilateral ties, Wang affirmed China’s readiness to be Congo’s most reliable partner in its development journey. He also pledged support for Congo’s role as co-chair of FOCAC in enhancing international cooperation with Africa. Wang expressed China’s willingness to collaborate closely with Congo to fully implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit, focusing on shared modernization goals, Africa’s development, and increasing Congo’s international influence.
