China and Botswana Celebrate 50 Years of Diplomatic Ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Botswanan President Duma Boko exchanged congratulations on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries on Monday.

Xi highlighted that over the past five decades, despite changes in the international landscape, China-Botswana relations have consistently thrived, fostering a strong friendship based on equality and partnership.

He expressed confidence that by continuing sincere friendship, solidarity, and cooperation, the relationship will continue to expand, bringing brighter prospects for bilateral cooperation.

Xi also noted that 2025 will mark the implementation of the outcomes from the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Standing at a new starting point, he affirmed his readiness to work with Boko to enhance mutual political trust, support each other's major initiatives, advance modernization efforts, and open a new chapter in the strategic partnership between China and Botswana.

President Boko celebrated the 50th anniversary as a significant milestone, expressing heartfelt gratitude to China for the enduring friendship and cooperation over the years.

He acknowledged being inspired by China's remarkable development and believes that the strategic partnership will offer opportunities for Botswana's inclusive growth.

Boko reaffirmed Botswana's firm support for the one-China policy and looks forward to strengthening relations based on mutual trust and respect, aiming to jointly implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of FOCAC for shared development and prosperity.
