The year 2024 marked a significant milestone for the Mini Three Links, as passenger trips between the Chinese mainland and the Taiwan region surpassed 1.36 million, reflecting a remarkable year-on-year increase of 78.82 percent. This surge, reported by the Maritime Safety Administration of Southeast China's Fujian Province, highlights the growing connectivity and demand for cross-strait travel.
Throughout the year, a total of 8,986 trips were made, showing a substantial 71.16 percent increase compared to the previous year. The Mini Three Links, which facilitate direct trade, postal, and transport services between mainland Fujian and Taiwan-administered Kinmen and Matsu islands, have been instrumental in strengthening ties since their launch on January 1, 2001.
During the New Year period, these routes maintained high operational levels, with the average daily passenger flow exceeding 5,000 travelers. This trend is expected to continue into the 2025 Spring Festival travel rush, with estimates suggesting around 200,000 passenger trips will be made.
In response to the increasing demand, the Taiwan authorities have announced an addition of six daily passenger trips starting January 14. This enhancement aims to accommodate the growing number of travelers and further bolster the economic and social exchanges between the regions.
The impressive growth of the Mini Three Links underscores the vital role of efficient transportation in fostering cross-strait relations and supporting the aspirations of young global citizens, business enthusiasts, and travelers seeking to explore and connect across diverse regions.
