By 2030, the Chinese mainland will establish a robust prevention and control system for senile dementia. This comprehensive framework will encompass prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and care, addressing the rising number of elderly individuals affected by dementia.
Fifteen key authorities, including the National Health Commission, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Education, have collaborated to issue an action plan. The plan outlines seven major tasks aimed at mitigating the impact of senile dementia. These tasks focus on promoting fundamental knowledge, conducting screening and early intervention, increasing care services, fostering a dementia-friendly social environment, and enhancing external collaborations.
By 2030, the standardized diagnosis and treatment mechanisms will be significantly improved, with cognitive function screening for the elderly fully implemented. Additionally, nursing institutions with over 100 beds will see 50% of their facilities equipped with special care units for elderly dementia patients. The plan also aims to train 15 million caregivers to support these patients effectively.
