China Enhances Aviation Safety After Recent Airline Incidents

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) is implementing multiple measures to ensure the safe operations of airlines following recent high-profile safety incidents involving Azerbaijan Airlines and Jeju Air of the Republic of Korea. An official announced these initiatives at a press conference on Friday.

Shu Mingjiang, the director of aviation safety at the CAAC, emphasized that the administration has been consistently conducting safety risk assessments and investigations for flight operations in line with Chinese civil aviation laws, regulations, and international standards.

In response to the recent incidents, the CAAC has undertaken several key measures:

  1. Enhanced Communication and Monitoring: The CAAC promptly convened a special meeting to discuss the incidents, closely monitor accident investigations and cause analyses, enhance risk awareness, and maintain a problem-oriented approach.
  2. Bird Strike Prevention: Emphasizing the primary responsibility of airports, the CAAC urges all airports to accurately assess migratory bird patterns during the winter season and enhance bird dispersal efforts. Technological means are being employed to improve the accuracy of bird strike prevention.
  3. Runway Safety: A comprehensive investigation of runway safety hazards is underway to effectively prevent related safety risks.
  4. Emergency Response Drills: The CAAC is strengthening emergency drills to improve response efficiency, urging relevant units to enhance emergency training and drill standards to ensure preparedness.
  5. Spring Festival Safety Inspections: Special safety supervision and inspections will be conducted during the Spring Festival period to promptly eliminate various safety hazards.

These proactive steps demonstrate the CAAC’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing aviation safety standards, ensuring the well-being of passengers and the reliability of China’s aviation sector.
