China is ramping up its role in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as it takes on the rotating presidency for 2024-2025. The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced the release of the official emblem for its tenure, featuring the slogan \"Upholding the Shanghai Spirit: SCO on the move\" in Chinese, Russian, and English, symbolizing the country's commitment to fostering international collaboration.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized the importance of the slogan's focus on action, highlighting China's dedication to enhancing cooperation across politics, security, the economy, and people-to-people exchanges within the SCO framework. \"China is committed to taking more practical steps to further enhance SCO cooperation and build a community with a shared future,\" Mao stated.
As part of its presidency, China plans to host a summit that promises friendship, solidarity, and substantial outcomes, alongside more than 40 institutionalized meetings. These gatherings aim to address various global challenges and promote sustainable development among member states.
Major events scheduled during China's SCO presidency include the SCO Political Parties Forum, a forum on poverty reduction, a forum on people-to-people exchanges, and one on friendship cities. Additionally, the SCO International Investment and Trade Expo will showcase opportunities for economic collaboration.
China is also introducing cultural and innovation-focused initiatives, such as a film festival, TV festival, art festival, youth innovation and entrepreneurship competition, and a Chinese calligraphy competition. These events are designed to strengthen cultural ties and inspire the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.
Since taking on the presidency, China has already organized significant events, including the Green Development Forum and the 42nd meeting of the Council of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure, underscoring its proactive approach to addressing regional and global issues.
