Chinese Ambassador Offers Support to Vanuatu Earthquake Victims

In a heartfelt gesture, Chinese Ambassador Li Minggang visited the families of Chinese nationals affected by the recent devastating earthquake in Vanuatu on Wednesday.

Ambassador Li extended his condolences to those who lost loved ones and expressed deep sympathy to the injured and their families. He assured them that the Chinese embassy is committed to providing all necessary assistance during this challenging period.

Highlighting the severity of the situation, Vanuatu was struck by a 7.3-magnitude earthquake on December 17, leading to at least 14 fatalities and injuring over 200 people. The crisis worsened when a subsequent 6.1-magnitude quake hit on December 22, causing significant infrastructure damage.

In response to the disaster, China has dispatched a team of four technical specialists to Vanuatu. According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the team will focus on scientific examinations of building structures in the most affected areas, conduct safety assessments, and investigate potential secondary disasters to aid in the recovery efforts.

The embassy has also called on the Vanuatu government and relevant authorities to implement swift and effective measures to address the aftermath of the earthquakes, ensuring the safety and well-being of all affected residents.
