In the vibrant city of Shenzhen, the shift to new electric vehicles (NEVs) is becoming increasingly prominent. The Lianhua Hill Supercharging Station, a key infrastructure hub, has undergone a major upgrade, boosting its charging capacity from 60 kilowatts to an impressive 600 kilowatts. This enhancement allows up to 46 vehicles to charge simultaneously, significantly improving convenience and efficiency for NEV owners.
As of October 2024, over a quarter of Shenzhen's vehicle fleet comprises electric models, a testament to the city's commitment to sustainability. Across the Chinese mainland, NEV sales have soared to more than 9.5 million vehicles in 2024 alone, marking a 41.2 percent increase compared to the previous year, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

Solar power has emerged as a pivotal player in the country's push towards sustainability, surpassing wind and hydroelectric power to become the second-largest source of energy. By the end of October 2024, China's installed solar power capacity reached 793 gigawatts, according to official statistics. This capacity is largely concentrated in the eastern and western regions, where expansive solar farms and distributed solar systems generate clean energy.
Yang Kun, executive vice chairman of the China Electricity Council, highlighted the significant progress in solar energy development. \"It is expected that the newly installed capacity of solar power generation will be about 250 million kilowatts in 2024, and the cumulative installed capacity of solar power generation is expected to exceed 850 million kilowatts, accounting for more than a quarter of the total installed capacity in the country,\" Yang told the China Media Group (CMG).
