China’s 2015-2023: The Warmest Nine Years on Record

The latest Annual Report on Actions to Address Climate Change was unveiled in Beijing, revealing that the years from 2015 to 2023 stand as the warmest nine years in China's recorded meteorological history.

During this period, the globe witnessed a steady increase in natural disasters each year since 1980. In China alone, the first eleven months of 2024 saw the country experience its third-highest precipitation levels ever recorded. Both northern and southern regions were battered by frequent and heavy rainfall, accompanied by widespread extreme temperatures and a surge in typhoons, especially in the autumn months.

Despite these challenges, the report highlights China's significant strides in combating climate change. The nation has made remarkable progress in renewable energy, electric vehicles, and green building sectors. Additionally, the implementation of carbon emissions trading markets has proven effective in promoting carbon reduction.

Artificial intelligence has also been leveraged with promising results, playing a crucial role in climate change mitigation efforts. The report emphasizes the importance of global cooperation to address the escalating challenges posed by climate change.

Compiled by experts from the Joint Laboratory of Climate Change Economics and Simulation of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), this marks the 16th annual publication, underscoring China's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.
