China has unveiled its latest naval powerhouse, the Type 076 amphibious assault ship named Sichuan, during a grand ceremony in Shanghai on Friday.
The Sichuan, bearing the hull number 51, marks a significant advancement in China's maritime capabilities. With a full-load displacement exceeding 40,000 tonnes, the vessel boasts a dual-island superstructure and a full-length flight deck, enhancing its operational flexibility.
Equipped with cutting-edge electromagnetic catapult and arrestor systems, the Sichuan can efficiently deploy fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and amphibious equipment. These innovations signify China's commitment to modernizing its People's Liberation Army Navy and expanding its presence in international waters.
Navy officials highlighted the Sichuan's pivotal role in the ongoing transformation of the naval force, emphasizing its enhanced combat readiness for far-sea operations. Following the launch, the ship will undergo comprehensive testing, including equipment commissioning, mooring trials, and sea trials to ensure optimal performance.
The Sichuan follows the successful commissioning of the inaugural 075-class amphibious assault ship, Hainan, in 2019, which officially joined the fleet in April 2021. Additionally, two more Type 075 vessels, Guangxi and Anhui, have been integrated into the navy, further strengthening China's amphibious warfare capabilities.
