For six decades, Wei Deyou has been a steadfast border guard in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, patrolling China’s remote northwestern border in Salbulake. Throughout his 60-year career, Wei braved the giant mosquitoes of summer and endured temperatures dropping to minus 40 degrees Celsius in the winter.
At the age of 83, Wei has now passed the torch to his daughter, continuing a legacy of dedication and service. “No matter how difficult, we must guard the motherland,” he said, reflecting on his long-standing commitment to protecting China's frontier.
Wei’s story is a testament to the resilience and unwavering spirit of those who serve in some of the most challenging environments. His transition to the next generation ensures that the mission of safeguarding the region remains strong.
