Chinese Sports Leaders Wrap Up 2024 Achievements and Plan for Olympic Success

The 2024 Chinese National Sports Directors Conference concluded in Beijing on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in the country’s athletic and sports development journey.

Attendees at the conference reviewed the outstanding accomplishments of Chinese athletes over the past year and discussed the ongoing development of sports across the nation. The conference provided a comprehensive analysis of the current landscape and outlined the missions ahead for advancing China's sports initiatives.

Gao Zhidan, director of China's General Administration of Sport, emphasized the importance of 2025 as the wrap-up year for China’s 14th Five-Year Plan. He highlighted that sports administrations at all levels are committed to ensuring a successful conclusion to the plan, with a particular focus on preparing Team China for the upcoming Olympic Games.

In a significant move to nurture young talent, the first National Youth Games for Football, Basketball, and Volleyball were held in Changsha and Yueyang, Hunan Province, in late November. Elite young athletes from across the country showcased their skills, reflecting China’s dedication to fostering the next generation of sports stars.

Song Kai, president of the Chinese Football Association (CFA), expressed pride in the achievements of Chinese athletes in 2024. He also acknowledged the pressure and motivation within the football community to improve and rejuvenate the sport. Song Kai emphasized the importance of learning from the Chinese Olympic delegation’s excellent performance at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris to drive progress in Chinese football.
