In a recent development, the spokesperson for the Chinese Defense Ministry, Zhang Xiaogang, emphasized that the acquisition of U.S. weaponry by Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities will not serve as a \"magic straw\" to secure their position.
Speaking at a regular press conference, Zhang responded to reports about the arrival of Taiwan's first batch of M1A2T battle tanks purchased from the United States. He cautioned that seeking independence through U.S. support is destined for failure and that resorting to force to resist reunification is futile.
Zhang also called on the U.S. to adhere to the one-China principle and respect the three China-U.S. joint communiqués. He urged the immediate cessation of arms sales to Taiwan and condemned actions that jeopardize peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
The spokesperson further assured that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) will enhance its combat readiness and capabilities to effectively counter any \"Taiwan independence\" separatist attempts and foreign interference.
