China Nears Moon Landing Goal with Chang’e-6 Success in 2024

China is making significant strides in its quest to land astronauts on the moon by 2030. In 2024, the country successfully launched the Chang'e-6 lunar probe on May 3, marking a historic achievement in space exploration.

The Chang'e-6 mission aimed to collect 2 kilograms of samples from the far side of the moon—a feat never accomplished by humans before. On June 25, the probe successfully returned to Earth, landing in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The returned samples, weighing 1,935.3 grams, have provided new insights for scientists. A study published in Nature on December 19 revealed that the moon's magnetic field experienced a resurgence in strength 2.8 billion years ago, following a significant decline around 3.1 billion years ago. These findings help unravel the moon's geological history and enhance our understanding of its magnetic properties.

China's ongoing advancements in space technology underscore its commitment to becoming a leading nation in lunar exploration, paving the way for future manned missions and further scientific discoveries.
