Zhao Leji Calls for Stronger Legislative Role in Chinese Modernization

China's top legislator, Zhao Leji, emphasized the crucial role of people's congresses in driving Chinese modernization during a recent lawmakers' symposium. Speaking on the sidelines of a legislative session, Zhao, who serves as the chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, highlighted the significant progress made by the NPC Standing Committee this year.

Under Zhao's leadership, the NPC Standing Committee has effectively contributed to the achievement of annual economic and social development goals, marking substantial strides toward the nation's modernization ambitions. He underscored the importance of upholding and developing whole-process people's democracy, urging congresses to base their work firmly on the will of the people.

Additionally, Zhao advocated for conducting in-depth investigations and research with a realistic and pragmatic approach. He called for coordinated and orderly planning and execution of legislative work to ensure continued progress.

Looking ahead, Zhao stressed the necessity of thorough preparations for the upcoming third annual session of the 14th NPC, emphasizing its pivotal role in shaping China's future development path.
