The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government has taken decisive action against seven individuals accused of endangering national security. Chris Tang Ping-keung, the secretary for security, utilized the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance to impose stringent measures on Hui Chi-fung, Kwok Fung-yee, Yuan Gong-yi, Kwok Wing-hang, Yam Kevin, Hui Wing-ting, and Siu Joey.
The measures include prohibitions on handling funds, engaging in activities related to immovable property, and participating in joint ventures or partnerships with the absconders. Additionally, the HKSAR passports of the individuals have been canceled. Specific measures such as the suspension of qualification to practice have been applied to Kwok Wing-hang and Yam Kevin, while Yuan Gong-yi faces temporary removal from his director position.
In a press briefing, Tang emphasized that these actions are necessary to prevent the individuals from continuing activities that threaten national security. He urged the absconders to return to Hong Kong to face legal and judicial processes.
Furthermore, the Hong Kong Police Force has added six more individuals—Chung Kim-wah, Lau Ka-man, Chung Hon-lam, Ho Leung-mau Victor, Joseph Tay, and Cheung Hei-ching Chloe—to their wanted list for suspected violations of the national security law. A bounty of 1 million Hong Kong dollars (approximately $128,758) is being offered for each.
The Office for Safeguarding National Security has expressed firm support for these law enforcement actions, highlighting that the absconders have been conducting smear campaigns against Hong Kong's rule of law and seeking external interference. The office stated that these measures are essential to uphold national security and ensure Hong Kong's stability and prosperity.
