In a significant move to bolster global economic stability, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held phone talks with his South Korean counterpart Cho Tae-yul on Tuesday. Wang emphasized China's readiness to strengthen coordination with the Republic of Korea (ROK) to jointly maintain the stability of global industrial and supply chains.
Despite rising trade protectionism and unilateralism, the trade scale between China and the ROK has continued to grow, highlighting the intertwined interests of the two nations. This offers a solid foundation and ample space for further economic and trade cooperation, Wang noted.
He welcomed ROK enterprises to continue entering the Chinese market and expanding their investments in China, asserting that China and the ROK are friendly neighbors and important partners. Recent efforts by both sides have resulted in improved and developing China-ROK relations, aligning with the interests of both peoples.
Wang called for enhanced dialogue and cooperation across various fields, stronger exchanges at all levels, increased mutual understanding and trust, and the promotion of a healthy and stable strategic cooperative partnership between the ROK and China.
Addressing recent changes in the ROK's domestic situation, Wang reiterated China's adherence to non-interference in internal affairs and expressed confidence in the ROK's ability to handle its domestic issues effectively.
ROK Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul echoed the positive momentum of bilateral relations, reaffirming the ROK's commitment to promoting sustainable development of the strategic cooperative partnership with China. He expressed willingness to strengthen strategic communication, increase high-level contacts, and facilitate more people-to-people exchanges.
The two ministers also highlighted the importance of China-Japan-ROK cooperation for regional peace, stability, and prosperity, agreeing to work together to strengthen trilateral cooperation under multilateral frameworks like the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
Additionally, they discussed the situation on the Korean Peninsula, with Wang advocating for resolving issues through dialogue and consultation, emphasizing China's role in maintaining peace and stability on the peninsula.
