Senior Chinese lawmakers convened on Sunday for an important session of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, addressing several critical reports shaping the nation's future.
Leading the meeting was Zhao Leji, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, who oversaw deliberations on various legislative and policy matters.
One of the key reports discussed was the enforcement of the Law on State-Owned Assets of Enterprises. This report emphasized the establishment and improvement of the entrusted agency mechanism for state-owned enterprises and the management of state capital, aiming to enhance transparency and efficiency.
Environmental conservation was also a major focus, with lawmakers reviewing the Yellow River Protection Law. This legislation seeks to promote law-based governance of the Yellow River, ensuring the conservation and restoration of its ecosystem, which is vital for millions of people and the region's biodiversity.
The session also featured an Audit Rectification Report for 2023. By the end of September, the rectification process had involved approximately 538 billion yuan (about $74.8 billion) in funds, with over 2,800 individuals held accountable. This underscores the government's commitment to financial integrity and combating corruption.
Additionally, the committee deliberated on the allocation and utilization of fiscal funds dedicated to disaster prevention, mitigation, and emergency management. The proposed improvements aim to optimize fiscal policies and fund allocation models, ensuring better preparedness and response to natural and man-made disasters.
Other reports addressed during the meeting included farmland protection, legislative recording and review, and measures to tackle misconduct and corruption among officials.
Through these comprehensive discussions, the NPC Standing Committee continues to steer China's legislative framework towards greater efficiency, sustainability, and accountability.
