In a recent meeting, Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed strong confidence in Sam Hou Fai, who has been sworn in as the sixth-term chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).
Xi emphasized that Sam is well-equipped to lead the SAR's new government and its diverse population in faithfully implementing the principle of \"One Country, Two Systems.\" This approach ensures that the people of Macao maintain a high degree of autonomy.
The president highlighted Macao's commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and development interests. He also stressed the importance of economic diversification and the continuous improvement of public well-being within the region.
Xi voiced his belief that Macao will leverage its unique position to better integrate into the overall national development framework and deepen exchanges and cooperation with other countries and regions.
\"The central government will fully support the chief executive and the Macao SAR government in fulfilling their duties,\" Xi affirmed.
In response, Sam Hou Fai expressed his gratitude to Xi and the central government for their trust. He pledged to lead the new SAR government in advancing the successful practice of \"One Country, Two Systems\" in Macao.
The meeting was attended by Cai Qi and other officials.
