Brewing Bonds: How Tea Strengthens Georgia-China Friendship

Tea has long been more than just a beverage; it’s a cultural bridge that fosters international friendships. In the case of Georgia and China, this bond is deeply rooted in the shared love for tea.

Tinatin Shishinashvili, senior counsellor at the Embassy of Georgia in China, highlighted on CGTN’s special program \"UniTea: Macao Tea Melody\" that the friendly relationship between the two nations is inseparable from tea. Referred to as \"chai\" in Georgian, tea holds profound origins in China.

Tracing back to the 19th century, Chinese tea expert Liu Junzhou journeyed from Guangzhou to Georgia, where he cultivated the black tea that Georgians cherish today. His dedication to the craft earned him the revered title of \"King of Georgian Tea,\" a testament to the enduring connection between the two cultures.

As Macao celebrates the 25th anniversary of its return to China, Tinatin extended her warm wishes for the special program, underscoring the significance of tea in nurturing diplomatic and cultural ties.
