China and India Reach Historic Six-Point Agreement in Beijing

In a significant diplomatic breakthrough, special representatives from China and India concluded their 23rd meeting in Beijing on Wednesday, achieving a six-point consensus on the long-standing boundary issue. This marks the first such meeting in five years, signaling a renewed commitment to peaceful negotiations.

The consensus outlines several key commitments, including measures to safeguard peace and tranquility in the border regions and promote the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations. Both sides emphasized the importance of seeking solutions to the boundary question that are fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable, adhering to the political guiding principles established in 2005.

Further agreements focus on refining border area management rules and strengthening trust-building measures. The representatives also agreed to enhance cross-border exchanges and cooperation, with a particular emphasis on facilitating the return of Indian pilgrims to China's Xizang region. Additionally, the construction of the special representatives meeting mechanism will be further strengthened to ensure ongoing dialogue.

Looking ahead, the consensus includes plans for the next meeting of the special representatives to be held in India next year. Both parties highlighted that a stable, predictable, and sound China-India relationship is crucial for maintaining international and regional peace and stability.
