At the annual Central Rural Work Conference in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the critical need to deepen rural reform and bolster China's agricultural strength.
Xi, who also serves as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, outlined his vision for advancing agriculture, rural areas, and farmers. He stressed the importance of improving support systems to enhance agricultural productivity, benefit farmers, enrich rural communities, and push forward comprehensive rural revitalization.
Highlighting the necessity of stable production and supply of grain and other key agricultural products, Xi called for the creation of more avenues for farmers to increase their incomes. He underscored the importance of consolidating and expanding the successes of poverty alleviation efforts to ensure that no large-scale lapses or relapses into poverty occur.
Xi also advocated for robust initiatives to promote rural development, aiming to transform the countryside into a beautiful and harmonious place for people to live and work. He urged Party committees and governments at all levels to prioritize agricultural and rural development, accelerate the modernization of these sectors, and further strengthen the country's agricultural foundation. These efforts are intended to bring greater prosperity to rural areas and farmers, steadily advancing towards the goal of building up China's agricultural strength.
The conference also reviewed draft opinions from the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on further deepening rural reform and promoting all-around rural revitalization. Emphasis was placed on achieving tangible results by enhancing agricultural efficiency, injecting vitality into rural areas, and increasing farmers' incomes.
Additionally, the conference addressed the importance of ensuring national food security by continuously enhancing the supply capacity of essential agricultural products like grain and developing new quality productive forces tailored to local conditions. Coordinated progress in new urbanization and rural revitalization was also a key focus.
Efforts to comprehensively implement further rural reforms were discussed, including well-organized trials to extend rural land contracts by another 30 years upon the expiration of the second-round contracts. These measures aim to provide stability and predictability for farmers, fostering long-term agricultural development.
