Wang Yi Emphasizes Cooperation at 7th CICA Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the seventh foreign ministers' meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) via video link on Tuesday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, highlighted China's active participation as a founding member of CICA. He affirmed that China consistently supports the development of CICA and is committed to continuing its involvement.

Wang emphasized that ensuring security, promoting development, pursuing cooperation, and seeking win-win results are urgent aspirations shared by the majority of countries. He called on CICA to play a unique role in building an Asian community with a shared future and expanding new opportunities for collaborative growth.

He urged CICA member countries to adhere to peaceful coexistence, seek common security, advance Belt and Road cooperation to foster prosperity and development, respect diverse civilizations, promote exchanges and mutual learning, practice multilateralism, and work together to build a harmonious region.

Wang noted that Chinese modernization follows a path of peaceful development, bringing more opportunities to Asian countries. He stated that China is ready to collaborate with CICA member states to forge a new form of Asian civilization characterized by win-win development through solidarity and coordination.

Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu reflected on the progress made during the past two years under the rotating chair of CICA. Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister and the new chair of CICA, outlined key considerations for the next steps.

All parties agreed that CICA member states should unite and build trust, deepen strategic coordination, strengthen and enhance the CICA mechanism, expand the organization's influence, and collaborate with the Global South to address global challenges. They also plans to explore ways to better synergize the Belt and Road Initiative with the Global Security Initiative, promote regional connectivity, and enhance mutual understanding among countries.
