Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday met with Ho Iat Seng, chief executive of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).
During the meeting, President Xi praised Ho for rising to challenges and achieving remarkable results. Under Ho's leadership, the SAR government has united all sectors of Macao society, fully implementing the principle of \"One Country, Two Systems.\" This has safeguarded national sovereignty, security, and development interests, helped overcome the severe challenges posed by COVID-19, and promoted the moderately diversified development of Macao's economy.
President Xi affirmed the work of Ho and the SAR government, expressing hope that Ho will continue to support the new chief executive and government in their lawful administration. He emphasized the importance of contributing to the cause of \"One Country, Two Systems\" and the ongoing development of Macao and the country.
On behalf of the SAR government and the people of Macao, Ho welcomed President Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan to attend the ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to China, the inauguration of the sixth-term government of the Macao SAR, and their inspection tour.
Ho thanked President Xi and the central government for their trust and support, which have been instrumental in uniting the SAR's response to COVID-19 and elevating Macao to a new level over the past five years. He promised to continue supporting the new SAR government and contributing to the development of Macao and the country.
