The cross-Straits direct links between Xiamen in Fujian Province and the Kinmen Islands of the Taiwan region have witnessed a significant resurgence. Established in 2001 as \"Mini Direct Links,\" the service became part of the broader cross-Straits direct links in 2008, facilitating over 20 million passenger trips.
After a nearly three-year suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these direct links resumed operations in January. Since their return, the number of round-trip routes has skyrocketed from two per day to 20, accumulating more than 1.15 million passenger trips so far.
Chen Jinlai, deputy chief of Gaoqi Border Inspection Station under Xiamen Border Inspection Authorities, highlighted the benefits for frequent travelers. \"For the Taiwan compatriots who constantly come and go for business in the mainland, we offer a convenient registration service that is applicable across the mainland and takes only about two minutes,\" he said.
Additionally, for first-time travelers, dedicated teams provide fast customs clearance assistance, and services are available in the Minnan or Southern Fujian dialect to ensure a smooth journey.
