China continues to lead the world in renewable energy, maintaining impressive utilization rates for wind and solar power this year. According to the National Energy Administration, both wind and solar power utilization rates stayed above 95 percent in 2024, showcasing China's commitment to a sustainable future.
By the end of 2024, China's installed wind power capacity reached a staggering 510 million kilowatts, while solar power capacity soared to 840 million kilowatts. In just the first seven months of the year, wind and solar power generation totaled 1.05 trillion kilowatt-hours, accounting for approximately 20 percent of the country's total electricity generation.
The new energy sector in China has seen rapid growth, maintaining a double-digit annual increase. Since 2013, wind power installed capacity has grown sixfold, and solar power installed capacity has surged more than 180 times. China's annual new installations now represent over 40 percent of the global total, significantly contributing to worldwide green development efforts.
At the recent national energy work conference, Chinese authorities pledged to enhance efforts in developing and utilizing wind and solar power further, aiming to accelerate the country's green and low-carbon transformation. Additionally, China plans to deepen international energy cooperation, particularly in green energy, and actively participate in global energy governance to support sustainable development worldwide.
